Yoshi and the Mysterious Book: Wonderful, but…

A Wonderful Game, indeed

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book is an absolute delight, but it also leaves me with mixed feelings.

The good feeling comes from how fun the game is to play, how beautiful it looks, and how relaxing it feels overall. The puzzles are clever, and all the charm of Yoshi’s Island is still there — with an incredible amount of creativity packed into every moment.

The bittersweet feeling, though, is that I still personally prefer gameplay closer to the classic Yoshi’s Island style. That doesn’t mean the new gameplay isn’t great — honestly, I think it’s fantastic. Games like this are exactly what the industry needs: creative ideas that try new things and move beyond the usual formulas.

But if we never get a second Yoshi game for Nintendo Switch 2 with a more “traditional” Yoshi’s Island approach, I’ll probably keep that tiny feeling of “man… I wanted that game too.”

Maybe more to come?

And NO, I’m not saying I don’t want Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. Quite the opposite — I’d love to see sequels! I just wish this new style and the classic Yoshi gameplay could coexist side by side.

That said, I’m loving the game so far, and maybe the more I play it, the more satisfied I’ll feel without needing another traditional-style Yoshi title anytime soon. And of course, whenever I want, I can always go back to the SNES, Wii U, Switch — and even the DS — to replay the classics.

What about you? Are you planning to play Yoshi and the Mysterious Book? What did you think of the game?
